A Legacy of Trust, Reimagined

In Mumbai’s historic Fort district, Ultraconfidentiel has designed and built Trilegal’s new flagship office, bringing contemporary workplace design into dialogue with the character of a heritage building.

‍

Architecture carries the memory of a place. Giving it a new purpose requires an understanding of what makes it distinctive, and how it can evolve.

For Trilegal’s workplace in Fort, Mumbai, Ultraconfidentiel approached this relationship through the values that underpin legal practice: integrity, clarity and enduring trust. The completed refurbishment connects the building’s architectural heritage with the working rhythms of a contemporary law firm.

‍

A Considered Arrival

The experience begins at the historic façade, where a sensitive entrance intervention introduces Trilegal’s identity. The original door design, stained-glass clerestory infill and solid-brass signage create a distinctive arrival, grounded in the character of the building.

This dialogue continues throughout the interiors, where existing architectural features give depth and identity to the new workplace.

‍

Quiet Authority, Human Warmth

Warm neutrals, rich timber, tactile surfaces and restrained metal accents establish a composed material language. Daylight and integrated lighting reveal textures, define spaces and balance the formality of the workplace with a welcoming atmosphere.

The result is an expression of quiet authority: precise in its details, comfortable in its use and attentive to the people who inhabit it.

‍

Space for Every Conversation

Legal practice moves between individual concentration, confidential exchange and collective deliberation. The workplace accommodates these different modes through boardrooms, meeting rooms and smaller huddle spaces.

Considered planning and integrated technology support each setting, allowing the scale and character of a conversation to shape where it takes place.

‍

Knowledge at the Centre

In the library, dark timber shelving sits alongside existing arched windows, creating a contemplative setting for research and reflection. The relationship between books, material and daylight gives the space a particular sense of permanence.

Across the work floors, exposed trusses, timber-toned work surfaces and linear lighting establish a clear architectural rhythm, bringing structure to the everyday working environment.

‍

Beyond the Desk

The work café, executive dining area and outdoor seating introduce a more relaxed pace. These spaces make room for informal conversations, shared meals and moments of respite-interactions that help build relationships across a practice.

Together, they extend the workplace experience beyond its formal settings, recognising the connection between professional life and human connection.

Trilegal Fort reflects our belief that heritage can play an active role in shaping the future of work. Through a considered refurbishment, the building’s character becomes part of a new chapter: a workplace grounded in its context, built around its people and ready to evolve with the practice.
